FAQ Hub — Big Expert Painting

How do you build an estimate—what’s included?

We walk the space, note repairs, surface types, heights, and access, then itemize prep, materials, coats, and cleanup. You’ll see a clear scope, timeline, and total.

What payment methods do you accept, and do you require a deposit?

We typically take major cards, checks, and ACH. A small scheduling deposit may apply on larger jobs, with the balance due at completion after your walkthrough.

Are you EPA Lead-Safe Certified for pre-1978 homes?

Yes—we follow RRP lead-safe practices: test/assess, contain dust, use proper PPE, clean/HEPA vacuum, and dispose of waste per regulations.

Do you paint kitchen cabinets or do cabinet refinishing?

We do. Our process includes degreasing, scuff-sand, repairs, bonding primer, and durable enamel/topcoat for a factory-smooth finish that resists chips.

Can you remove wallpaper or heavy texture before painting?

Yes—we score, steam/soak, remove adhesive, skim as needed, prime, and then paint so walls look fresh and uniform.

Do you stain or refinish decks and fences?

Absolutely. We clean and prep, address loose fasteners or splinters, and apply transparent, semi-transparent, or solid stains based on look and longevity.

What paint brands or systems do you typically use?

We specify pro-grade primers and topcoats suited to each surface (bath/kitchen moisture, high-traffic trim, masonry, metal) to balance durability, washability, and budget.

Can you do large color samples so I can see them in my light?

Yes—besides swatches, we can place on-wall test patches or sample boards so you can compare shades in daylight and evening light before we start.

What if you uncover hidden damage (rot, mold, loose stucco) mid-project?

We pause, document with photos, explain options, price any change order clearly, and only proceed with your approval so there are no surprises.

How do you communicate progress during the job?

You’ll get a single point of contact, daily check-ins, and milestone updates (prep complete, first coat, punch list) with photos if you’re off-site.

Do I need to be home while you work, and how is my property secured?

Not necessarily. We can arrange key/lockbox access, keep work zones contained, and secure doors/windows before leaving each day.

How soon can I use rooms after painting—especially bathrooms and kitchens?

Most rooms are usable same day for light use; allow normal ventilation. For steamy baths or heavy cleaning, give coatings 24–72 hours to cure per product guidance.

Do you provide maintenance tips to make paint last longer?

Yes—gentle cleaning, quick touch-ups on scuffs, caulking small gaps yearly, and minding sprinklers or gutters on exteriors will extend the finish.

Can you coordinate with other contractors during a remodel?

We often sequence with flooring, electricians, or countertop crews—aligning prep, primer, and final coats to minimize rework and downtime.

Do you offer rush or event-deadline options?

When scheduling allows, we can prioritize time-sensitive projects for listings, move-ins, or openings with extended hours or larger crews.

How do you handle weather delays on exterior jobs?

We track forecasts, work within safe temp/humidity ranges, and shift to prep or interior tasks if needed—then resume finish coats when conditions are right.

What should I do before the crew arrives?

Please clear small items and fragile décor, remove valuables, and provide driveway/parking access. We’ll handle furniture shifting and surface protection.

Will you label and leave leftover paint for future touch-ups?

Yes—we label sheen, room, and date, then leave touch-up containers neatly stored so you can match finishes later.
